The Art of Independence
How Art and Advocacy Helped Lena Reclaim Her Life
*Lena came to Crossroads after a concerned neighbor called the police during an altercation with her partner, leading to a referral through the Domestic Abuse Response Team. Unsure of what came next but ready for change, she entered the shelter seeking safety and support. With the help of her advocate, Lena enrolled in a job training program and began reconnecting with her passion for art. Over time, she built a routine, regained confidence, and started selling her artwork online. With help from a housing navigator, she secured a transitional apartment and began living on her own for the first time in years. With legal support, she was granted full custody of her child and a long-term protection order.
As she hung her first painting in her new space, Lena smiled, feeling peace and pride. Crossroads had given her a place to heal, now, she was ready to thrive.

Standing with All Survivors
LGBTQ+ Services Coming to the Family Justice Center
In 2024, Crossroads Safehouse served 39 individuals who self-identified as LGBTQ+. At Crossroads, we are committed to supporting all survivors, and we recognize the unique challenges that can arise at the intersection of LGBTQ+ identity and experiences with domestic abuse. As we look ahead to the opening of the Family Justice Center in 2025, we’re proud to partner with Joey from Alternatives to Violence to create an LGBTQ+ Support Group that will be accessible through the Center. Honoring Partners
Larimer County Behavioral Health Services
Larimer County Behavioral Health Services (LCBHS) plays a vital role in strengthening the behavioral health landscape across our county. Through its Impact Fund grant program, funded by a voter-approved behavioral health tax, LCBHS has invested millions in local organizations, including Crossroads Safehouse, to support youth, families, veterans, and underserved populations. Their commitment goes beyond funding: LCBHS champions collaboration, access to care in non-clinical settings, and efforts that foster belonging and well-being. With a focus on stewardship and community partnership, LCBHS continues to lead transformative work in Larimer County’s behavioral health system. Read the Q&A with them at the link below.
